Building a Strong Foundation in Lime Slaking
Since 1975, ZMI Portec has provided high-quality equipment solutions—including lime slakers—to customers across a wide range of industries.
The ZMI Portec line of detention lime slakers became well known for performance, reliability, and efficiency in producing high-quality lime slurry for industrial and municipal applications.
Acquisition, Growth, and Integration
In November 2009, the company acquired the assets of the ZMI Portec division of The Conveyor Company, expanding its capabilities in lime slaking systems. In January 2010, the parent organization combined its wholly owned subsidiaries and continued operating as Semcan Inc.
In the years that followed, the business continued to evolve, eventually rebranding as STT Enviro Corp. before being acquired by Carmeuse in 2017.
In 2024, the organization was fully integrated and unified under the name Carmeuse Systems, bringing together decades of engineering expertise and product innovation under a single brand.
Enhancing the ZMI Portec Lime Slaker Line
The integration of ZMI Portec technology enabled Carmeuse Systems to further enhance and expand its lime handling solutions. Over time, we have continued to improve the performance and safety of the ZMI Portec detention lime slaker line.
Key enhancements include:
- Wetting Bowl - Creates a water curtain around the dry feed system, improving efficiency and reducing lime buildup while enhancing safety by minimizing dusting and upstream plugging.
- Forced Draft Wet Scrubber - Captures dust and steam by introducing a water curtain across the air stream, reducing emissions, lowering exhaust temperature, and returning collected lime particles to the slaking chamber.
- Automation & Controls - The use of programmable logic controllers (PLCs) monitors inputs, outputs, and system performance, improving productivity while reducing manual oversight.
