Lime Slakers
Vertical Ball Mill Slaker
A vertical ball mill slaker is a type of ball mill used to finely grind a dry process material, such as quicklime, and slake it with water to produce a liquid slurry. Operating a vertical ball mill slaker requires a relatively low footprint, and the system is generally easy to control and optimize. Ball mill systems require the highest capital investment compared to other slaker types and are best suited to applications that require a high volume of slurry output. Vertical ball mill slakers can also be an effective solution when dealing with poor quality lime or a water source which has high sulfate/sulphite levels.
Within the vertical grinding tank, vertical ball mill slakers use a rotating mixing blade and steel balls as a grinding media to pulverize quicklime into more uniform particles for lime slaking. Vertical ball mills are usually more efficient than horizontal ball mills and do not require a hydrocyclone for grit handling. Instead, the fine grinding process eliminates the need for degritting, as grit is pulverized alongside the quicklime and incorporated into the slurry. The pulverizing action within the vertical ball mill slaker helps create a highly reactive slurry from even the most challenging of feed materials. The slurry then rises in the grinding tank and then flows through an outfeed port to a separator as part of a continuous manufacturing process.
Why Use a Vertical Ball Mill Lime Slaker from Carmeuse Systems?
Carmeuse Systems has partnered with Metso, a vertical ball mill manufacturer, to integrate the VERTIMILL® vertical ball mill slaker into our offerings. Carmeuse Systems can engineer a complete lime slaking solution tailored to your site needs using the Metso VERTIMILL® vertical ball mill system or provide enhancements to further improve your lime slurry production.
High Throughput of Lime Slurry
For applications requiring a high volume of lime slurry, the VERTIMILL® vertical ball mill slaker can slake up to 50,000 kg/hr of dry quicklime. The system can handle pebble lime sized up to 2.5” (6.4 cm) and can produce a slurry in and around 25% solids.
Carryover Prevention
Our patented Carmeuse Systems lime feed assembly, specifically designed for the Metso VERTIMILL® vertical ball mill slaker, helps stop unground or partially ground pebble quicklime from leaving the grinding tank too early with the slurry.
Improve Lime Usage Efficiency
Using our patented guide assembly helps to ensure that all lime fed to the mill slakes completely before being transported to your downstream processes. Even when lime or water quality is poor, the fine grinding capabilities of the VERTIMILL® lime slaker make it easier to utilize all residual reaction value of the lime and produce a highly reactive lime slurry.
Eliminate Grit Disposal Problems
Screening, collecting, and disposing of grit can add complexity to your lime slurry production processes. The VERTIMILL® vertical ball mill slaker virtually eliminates grit disposal problems, by grinding the grit so fine that it incorporates into the final lime slurry.
