Lime Slakers
Lime Slurry Mix Tanks & Batch Slakers
Mix tanks and batch slakers are used for the production of liquid slurries on a small scale compared to other slaker types. While the terms mix tank and batch slaker are often used interchangeably, there are some differences between the two. Mix tanks, as their name implies, are designed to mix materials into a liquid and continuously agitate the mixture to keep it in suspension. Mixing tanks are used in a wide range of industries for producing slurries from hydrated lime, soda ash, PAC, or other reagents.
The term batch slaker applies when a mixing tank is specially designed to manage a slaking reaction, such as for slaking magnesium oxide or for slaking quicklime (calcium oxide) with water to produce a hydrated lime slurry (calcium hydroxide). Unlike the continuous throughput of other slaker types, a batch slaker or lime slurry mixing tank, makes one distinct batch of slurry at a time using measured inputs. The slurry is then pumped to a storage tank before starting a new batch. Consequently, lime mixing tanks are best suited for applications where the needed production rate of slurry is relatively low and the quality of your quicklime and water sources remains consistent. Overall, batch slakers are easy to operate and maintain and are generally the least expensive type of slaking system you can install.
Carmeuse Systems can customize batch slakers and mixing tanks with various options to meet your needs. Let Carmeuse Systems review your requirements to determine the best fit for your application.
Features&Benefits
Features And Benefits
A lime mixing tank, or batch slaker, is an economical lime slaking solution that is well-suited for producing lime slurry on a smaller scale, especially when the application does not require a constant flow of slurry to downstream processes.
Features | Benefits |
---|---|
Most cost-effective solution | Allows you to meet slaking needs, with a low capital cost compared to other slaker types |
Simplistic operation | Lowers maintenance costs, saving you time and money |
Available in a wide range of slaking capacities, up to 1,100 lb/hr (500 kg/hr) | Provides you flexibility for smaller-scale production needs |
Slaker control by measured inputs | Straightforward to operate, as the system relies of fixed ratios of lime and water |
Small footprint | Requires less space for operation, compared to other slaker types |

Specifications
Specifications
Our lime slurry mixing tanks/batch slakers can process up to 1,100 lb/hr (500 kg/hr) of dry quicklime. In terms of water to lime ratios, batch slakers operate between a 3.5:1 and 6:1 ratio. The water to lime ratio in batch slakers is controlled by measured inputs for both the water and lime feeds into the mixing tank.
Typical lime mixing tank or batch slaker system components include:
- Feeder
- Mixtank with agitator
- Screen
- Water flow control manifold
- Pumps
- Control panels
